How To Find The Perfect Niche For You Internet Marketing Campaign That Will Really Make Money.

Wading through all of the available products to market can seem like an impossible task. Finding the right niche or products to promote is probably the most important part of each affiliate marketing campaign.

It is very easy to choose the wrong niche and literally doom your campaign before it even starts. There are some important things to consider when choosing a product that can really help you choose the right niche that will bring you the highest profits.

Two of the biggest things to consider are the popularity of a niche or product and the total commission earned for each sale. Obviously if all other things are equal higher commission is better, but only looking for the item with the highest overall payout can be dangerous, the item could have a far lower conversion rate, no market, or just be to expensive to sell very often.

The popularity of a niche is somewhat more difficult to consider. Both highly popular niches and less popular niches have their own advantages and disadvantages. High popularity niches come with the benefit of having alot of traffic, as well as a huge market of interested customers. Unfortunately they also have massive competition from others selling similar products or even the same products.

Popular niches also come with high search engine competition for keyword phrases. You can find good long tail phrases in high market niches, but it’s more difficult than in lower market niches to get great organic search engine rankings. If you find yourself in a higher competition niche try breaking it down further into micro or sub niches, this will allow you to find even better long tail keyword phrases that you can target in your SEO and PPC campaigns to get easy organic rankings and cheap bids.

Most sites that provide connections between marketer and vendor have some utility that will show you the popularity of each product so you really know what is selling and what isn’t. Like I said though just because one product is selling 20 times more than another doesn’t mean you are personally going to get more sales from that product cause the competition will be much higher.

A consideration that often gets ignored is whether to promote a real tangible product or something that is downloadable. This really isn’t the biggest concern but it does make a difference. Either way you wont have to deal with any inventory or actual sales but the commissions on downloadable items are a little higher on average because the vender has no overhead for the item itself.

Whatever type of product you pick put some thought into the niche to make sure its a niche people go into more often with the intent of spending money. Many topics out there people are just really looking for free information. For example, I have played guitar for many years, and there is a massive wealth of free guitar training all over the internet, if you were interested in promoting guitar training you really need to make sure that your products have something more that will drive people to buy your product over hunting for free information.

Make sure that your vendor knows what they are doing not just with the product itself but also with their own advertising and sales. Make sure that the link you are sending your buyers too is well written and well put together. You could do all the promotion in the world and it’s not going to mean anything if the huge masses of traffic you send to a vendors landing or sales page don’t buy because the advertising on your vendors side is weak, hard to understand, or just presented poorly. Look for a sales page that literally makes YOU want to buy.

One of the greatest consideration when choosing a niche is your own knowledge, opinions and experience. Many people try to find the perfect topic that has high commission and high popularity with lots of good relevant keyword phrases that really seem like they could be reached with minimal effort. Then they try to sell products in that untapped niche even though they have no knowledge or interest in the topic, and have never used any similar products. This is definitely doable but unless it is an amazing opportunity and sales are really just going to sky rocket I would avoid this.

It is much better if you can find a niche you are interested in that has the right amount of popularity and high enough commissions. Most people have enough hobbies and interests that this isn’t really hard to do. Choosing a topic you have no knowledge about is going to take a great amount of research to write good sales copy and articles, where as a topic you are already interested in will be easy to write about and far more enjoyable to promote.

To get down and dirty just think of a good topic you like and wouldn’t mind writing about, researching more on, and maybe even testing products for and go ahead and start by throwing that into Google’s Keyword Tool and see what you can get from there.

A good tool to help find niches and sub niches is Google’s simple and free keyword tool. You can use it to see exactly how many searches are made in Google each month for any keyword phrases you can think of. It’s also helpful in finding similar terms or phrases that could have less competition, for instance; if you enter backpacking into the keyword tool it will come back with hundreds of keyword variation on the word backpacking that you might want to target or find products for.
